This story by Jason Bellini at the Daily Beast that the Human Rights Campaign—already losing favor among the very people it's out to help over its questionable agenda—actively lobbied Congress against a quick move on Don't Ask, Don't Tell in favor of hate crimes legislation is not going to win them any fans. I would have no problem with HRC doing this, but doing it secretly, if true, would be pretty disgusting. It would be like saying, "We have all the money, so listen to us," and then advocating for policy strategies with which the majority of gay people may or may not agree.
HRC has strongly denied the allegation, but Michelangelo Signorile has a named source backing up Bellini's report.
