I posted on Mr. Brainwash's show last weekend, though I was only able to stick it out long enough in line to gather my free prints and then leave. So I returned today and snapped almost 60 pictures that should give you a thorough idea of Icons and should give you enough info to decide if you think Mr. Brainwash is kinda cool or impossibly lame.
More after the jump, including some pricing info...
In the touristy, paint-splattered chair in front of the gigantic paint can.
Details of the paint can (note Madonna/Britney kiss bar code).
Detail from the main image in the front.
One entire wall of variations on the Celebration cover had 44 images, many sold @ $16,000 each!
The wall of larger (30"X30"?) Madonnas were each $30,000.
The gigantic (12'X12'?) Madonna used for her album cover is on sale for $500,000, but "technically it belongs to Madonna." I don't know what that means. It's either hers or not, no?
This groovy triptych of Madonna? $45,000.
This comics-backed Madonna is $24,000.
Around the corner, the remnants of one of his first outdoor Madonnas...
...and yes, I took a piece.
NON-MADONNAI loathe Kate Moss, but loved his images of her.
Free postcards—the complete set goes for $60+ on eBay.
José with some giant 3-D stuff (that I found silly).
One of my favorite pieces in the show: ANDY.
Love the Bowie, but one criticism: There is no editing of the icons. They're not HIS icons.
Did nothing for me.
Tom Ford was well-represented!
His goofs on famous works are very funny, and unique. I liked Ben Franklin.
The next few show outdoor posters around the corner from the gallery:
All the rest focus on his works that are portraits made up of broken vinyl records. I must say I pretty much hate them. I found many of them were shaky on the likenesses and they just don't strike me as instantly as silk screens. (How did Sade wiggle in there? I like her, but...) I loved that Debbie Harry was used, but couldn't have cared less about her image:
