As Gay As We Wanna Be Comments (2)

Jonathan-groffEntertainment Weekly (May 21, 2010) takes on that insipid Newsweek article on gays playing straight quite handily. Like me, Mark Harris takes special exception to the writer's gross objection to the performance of Jonathan Groff on Glee. I would argue Groff is pretty perfect in his role. His real-life sexuality is hardly universally known, and he's convincing as a straight theater queen.

Harris's money-quote:

"For all its uptight grousing about who's 'queeny' and who isn't, the real ugliness of this argument is its suggestion that that very act of coming out is a kind of self-sabotage for which you need to atone by making sure you never again do anything that will remind anyone you're gay. On second late, don't bother—if you've come out, it's already too late."
