Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) has decided she won't break the Republican filibuster of the defense bill, to which DADT is attached. Her reasoning is that while DADT is a discriminatory policy, it's just as bad that Harry Reid won't allow Republicans enough of a chance to tack on unlimited amendments to the bill.
See? Parliamentary slights are just as bad as institutionalized discrimination in the military. Potato, potahhhto.
The main reason to never support a Republican if you are an Independent or Democratic minded person wavering over which candidate in a particular race is "better" is that Republicans are Republicans first, foremost and always. There is no spirit of compromise, there is no such thing as bipartisan. And currently, the only thing that matters is thwarting ANYTHING getting done.
The irony is that Collins and Snow, while popular in Maine, will NEVER be re-elected to their seats; they will be primaried by teabaggers and lose. So their fealty to the party will be a good deed that will not go unpunished.
