I'm dying—DOY-EENG—to see Fran Drescher's new sitcom Happily Divorced, which is based on the fact that she married a man who didn't know (for sure, at least) he was gay...and stayed married to him 21 years. People (June 20, 2011) interviews the funnylady, who says of her ex, Peter Marc Jacobson:
"I thought, Did he know he was gay when I was walking down the aisle? When we had a fight in high school and he said, 'I love you but I'm not in love with you?' This made me wonder what we ever really know...He got in touch with his true orientation. I can't blame him for that."
She's also quizzed in Star (June 20, 2011), in which she says, under tougher questioning ("Is it really possible to be with a man and not know he's gay?"):
"Maybe the last third of the marriage Peter got in touch with his bisexuality, but we made the choice to stay in our relationship. So we lived together for several more years. But then I needed to find myself and had a very cliché midlife crisis!"
As an unapologetic Drescher fan, I'm looking forward to the comedy gold that could potentially be mined from a situation that no sitcom has tackled before as its main hook.
