Visiting NYC in 1988 and being the good gay tourist I was, I had this picture snapped of me with those infamous ACT UP outing posters on C Street (there is a chance this was taken in 1992 instead, but...seems like it would be late for that?). At any rate, let's see how accurate they were:
Jodie Foster = queer (yes), Merv Griffin = queer (yes), Barry Diller = queer (yes), is that Fran Lebowitz? = queer (yes), Ron Reagan Jr. = queer (no...he's said no...?), Calvin Klein = queer (yes), Debra Winger = queer (?), Mel Gibson = het (yes), Tom Selleck = queer (he would deny until his dying day, so...no?), Paula Abdul = het (yes), Whitney Houston = queer (duh, yes), Gertrude Stein = queer (yes), Debbie Reynolds = queer (Carrie Fisher says no but it's not hard to find credible stories about her dalliances with chicks so yes), Sherman Hemsley = queer (assume yes), Greg Louganis = queer (yes), Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta = queer (at least half yes), Whitney Houston again just for good measure because she was so VERY queer and James Baldwin = queer (yes).
I think it's time for a refresh of this idea. I'd love to walk around Hell's Kitchen and see Colton Haynes and others smiling at me from the walls of some trendy bistro or, I guess, one of the 17 Yum Yum Thai locations.
