Rep. Todd Akin (R-Missouri), the idiot running for the Senate who thinks thought "legitimate rape" can't lead to pregnancy, is staying in the race—so far. He's released an abject apology video today, the very day he has to leave the race in order to make things easy for the Republicans. After today, if he stays in, it gets much tougher to exit.
I'm not sure why he should leave. Even if everyone on up to Paul Ryan is saying he should leave, his polling numbers remain the same—he's tied with Sen. Claire McCaskill, who only has 41% favorability in the state. Republicans' attitudes about rape and abortion are not very far off at all from this guy's, and that includes Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan's. He would actually be an effective standard-bearer for a party that thinks women are lesser, and which counts on lesser women out there to agree.
