Charles Durning, the so-called "king of the character actors," has died at age 89. He has played so many second bananas it's hard to single out his best work, but he'll definitely be remembered for films like The Sting (1973) and for his 1990 Tony-winning performance as "Big Daddy" in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, a part which exemplified the type at which he excelled.
