Here's a good example why I have trouble being overly concerned when I'm told, "Oh, but people need to come out in their own time and on their own terms!" In this Craiglist ad, a guy says:

"i'm a 27 year old vgl closeted gay (friends have no idea i'm into this). i'm well educated, ambitious, work the standard 80 work week doing corporate law. i definitely come from a pretty preppy/waspy family. i'm athletic...i love to play tennis, squash, i work out regularly, and i played baseball throughout my childhood.

"although i'm definitely looking to find a similar bud that's down to hook up, i'm also looking for a buddy who can relate to my story recognizing that this shit is pretty fucking terrible to deal with."

Terrible to deal with? Because being gay in 2013 at age 27 coming from privileged background, being in apparently perfect health and being in possession of an athletic form and a healthy ego (the lowercase "i" notwithstanding, the poor dude does not have a problem asserting he is "vgl") are all so very terrible. I just don't care about someone like this. When people are dealing with birth defects and accidents and disease and are embroiled in legal battles, when people have death all around them or hunger or other forms of loss, this pathetic creature thinks being hot, employed and well-off are negated by being gay?
