I showed up late to the NYC rally in front of the Stonewall to celebrate the "double rainbow" ruling by the Supreme Court today, which struck down DOMA on the merits and voided Prop 8 based on standing. As I left the subway, I could hear Christine Quinn braying, but she was done when I stepped up to the front. (Or as close the front as I was gonna get—nice crowd!)
I did catch Edith Windsor thanking us for every ounce of our support and theorizing that the AIDS crisis crystallized LGBT strength and that her battle for equality on our behalf has cemented things even further. Lovely woman, and an honor simply to be on the same street as her on such a historic day.
Less inspiring was seeing desperate "WEINER FOR MAYOR" and "LIU FOR MAYOR" signs, although they learned their lesson when Windsor endorsed Quinn right in front of them!
