A Giant Secret Comments (4)

Elizabeth Taylor revealed to interviewer Kevin Sessums a (sad) secret about James Dean that she made him promise to keep until her death. She's being buried today (to beat out the Westboro creeps? more likely just "tradition"), so Sessums is spilling to the Daily Beast:

Giant_elizabeth_taylor_james_dean "I loved Jimmy. I'm going to tell you something, but it's off the record until I die. OK? When Jimmy was 11 and his mother passed away, he began to be molested by his minister. I think that haunted him the rest of his life. In fact, I know it did. We talked about it a lot. During Giant we'd stay up nights and talk and talk, and that was one of the things he confessed to me."

Spacey: The Final Frontier Comments (17)

Kevin Spacey says he will "never" come out. His belief is that discussing his sexual orientation—or any aspect of his private life—is an invasion and a distraction from his work. Furthermore, he sounds almost relieved that this whole anti-gay bullying thing is happening because it gives him the excuse to parallel questions about his sexual identity with kids tormenting and beating up other kids over theirs. Yeah, we've got another Vivica A. Fox here.

He does manage to clarify, in codified terms, that he's not closeted in his personal life.

Socialism Disease Comments (4)

FOX News honcho Roger Ailes isn't too concerned with his organization not seeming biased. In an interview with Daily Beast, he says:

"The president has not been very successful. He just got kicked from Mumbai to South Korea, and he came home and attacked Republicans for it. He had to be told by the French and the Germans that his socialism was too far left for them to deal with...[He] just has a different belief system than most Americans."

Straight Sex Comments (3)

Michael-patrick-king-rehearsal-greenwich-mrf58WMichael Patrick King wouldn't admit that Sex and the City appeals to gay men more than straight men, and now (with thanks to Frank for the link) he's gone and written a blog at Daily Beast that presumes exactly that—why else would he be so curious about and thrilled by evidence of straight men liking his series?

I don't have anything against the guy, but I don't know why he seems so hung up on this point that he can't joke freely about the obvious fact that gay men are way, way more likely to dig SATC than straight men. He's making bazillions of dollars...why must he pretend that the film reaches even more people than it already does?

For The Comeback alone, I can forgive him. If he stops pushing it!

Whose Rights Are They Anyway? Comments (1)

This story by Jason Bellini at the Daily Beast that the Human Rights Campaign—already losing favor among the very people it's out to help over its questionable agenda—actively lobbied Congress against a quick move on Don't Ask, Don't Tell in favor of hate crimes legislation is not going to win them any fans. I would have no problem with HRC doing this, but doing it secretly, if true, would be pretty disgusting. It would be like saying, "We have all the money, so listen to us," and then advocating for policy strategies with which the majority of gay people may or may not agree.

HRC has strongly denied the allegation, but Michelangelo Signorile has a named source backing up Bellini's report.
