The Supreme Court today declined to hear the case of Gavin Grimm, a trans teen fighting for bathroom rights, and in the process vacated a lower court's ruling in his favor. SCOTUS cited Donald Trump's policy, which was to scotch the positive guidelines put forth by President Obama in 2016.

Now, actor and trans activist Laverne Cox is laying it on the line in InStyle, explaining bluntly, “These bathroom laws aren't really about bathrooms.”

From her piece:

... don’t be fooled: These bathroom laws aren’t really about bathrooms. When the current administration rescinded the guidelines for how transgender students should be treated in schools, they made it all about bathrooms. But the Obama-era guidelines also included pronoun and name preferences for these young people as well. These are important components of how trans kids should be treated in school, but all that is lost when we sensationalize this issue. It’s not about bathrooms. It’s about the humanity of trans people, about us having the right to exist in a public space.

Damn right. And Trump and his insane minions are fighting to remove that right. The same principle applies to all anti-gay laws It's about making it harder for us to live.

SCOTUS Punts On Gavin Grimm Trans Rights Case, Vacating Favorable Ruling Comments (0)

Via WJLA: Hot on the heels of Trump's decision to erase President Obama's guidelines that helped trans teens on the issue of bathroom rights, the Supreme Court has handed the high-profile Gavin Grimm case to a lower Gavin-grimm-aclu-01_320p court without deciding on its merits:

The justices said Monday they have opted not to decide whether federal anti-discrimination law gives high school senior Gavin Grimm the right to use the boys' bathroom in his Virginia school.

The case had been scheduled for argument in late March. Instead, a lower court in Virginia will be tasked with evaluating the federal law known as title IX and the extent to which it applies to transgender students.

In a short statement, the Court said:

The judgment is vacated, and the case is remanded to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit for further consideration in light of the guidance document issued by the Department of Education and Department of Justice on February 22, 2017.

The Court specifically vacated that ruling because of the Trump Administration's anti-trans policies. Thank you, Caitlyn Jenner, and any other trans or trans-friendly people who voted for this corrupt, anti-LGBTQ bigot and creamed their panties over how pro-LGBTQ he was gonna be 'cuz he's a sophisticated New Yorker at heart.
