Rare Madonna Herb Ritts True Blue outtakes

Herb Ritts: L.A. Style was part of an exhibit at the J. Paul Getty Museum in L.A. It's so engaging to watch everyone talking about the late photographer's supremacy in his field. For Madonna fans, this mini-doc also gifts us with an amazing True Blue-era outtake of his muse. Even more fun, check out the gif here.

Video after the jump.

Also, Madonna surprised attendees of her second night MDNA show in Chicago by performing not only "Holiday" but also "Love Spent"—arguably the best song on the album, which BTW re-enters the Billboard 200 at #140. Video of that after the jump, too.

Shaun Sperling, Mr. Bar Mitzvah "Vogue", attended his second MDNA show last night (he sang along to "Like a Prayer" with Madonna the first night) but hasn't posted a word about it. Methinks he might've gotten the ultimate Madonna hook-up, but we won't know more until his episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show airs!

Right In The Kisser Comments (8)

Via MadonnaTribe: I'm not as obsessive as I once was in collecting every Madonna cover out there, but this one looks like a must-get—a fabulous, 25-year-old image of Madonna by Herb Ritts appears on the new Italian Vanity Fair. With a cover like that, who even cares if you don't read Italian?

It's Raining Madonna...Hallelujah! Comments (11)

With thanks to Cait: Radical Spirits—who apparently found a bunch of never-seen Madonna video outtakes in a dancer's storage unit—has struck again, this time gifting us with several shots from "Rain" (after the jump).

Keep reading for that and to see a contact sheet from the photo session for The Immaculate Collection...

With thanks to Don: Scott Blake's portrait of Madonna, rendered in bar codes, CD covers and ecstasy pills. Pretty great, eh? More here.

State Of The Ward Comments (2)

Whether you love Madonna or one of the most incredible-looking guys of the past couple of decades or both, Ward of the State looks to be your cup of tea—the works of over a dozen prominent artists who've been inspired by Tony Ward will be on display at the Stephen Cohen Gallery in L.A. starting with an opening reception April 14.

No Steven Meisel listed so his incredible Sex shots seem to be off limits.

Madonna & Golden Child Comments (2)

20101030-books-madonna-herb-ritts-golden-hour-cover-s I received the Herb Ritts retrospective The Golden Hour (RIzzoli) for Christmas. It's a must-have for fans of the late shutterbug's influential work, and for Madonna fans we already know it provides the previously unseen first portrait he ever took of her.

Overall, it's a wonderful but somewhat frustrating work. "Wonderful" because it has all of his most classic images and many surprises, "somewhat frustrating" because some of the most interesting items—like candids from behind-the-scenes of his shoots—are reproduced at postage-stamp size, like this hard-to-appreciate image of Madonna:

You CAN Take The Midwest Out Of The Girl Comments (12)

Via Letters of Note: Check out this hilariously bratty letter written by Madonna to Steven Meisel back in '91 when she was filming A League of Their Own! It's unkind, but not too, and has a succinct wit to it. Plus she has that great handwriting. I love how real it is—Meisel was envious of Ritts?—and it ends with a momentous reference to an upcoming project...after the jump...

The Herbification Of Ciccone Comments (3)

From Vanity Fair (October 2010), a never-seen image of Madonna shot by Herb Ritts the very first time they met. It's being published in an upcoming retrospective of his work. Sez she:

"The first time I [met] Herb was on the set of Desperately Seeking Susan—and it's true, he put a pair of underwear on my head. I thought he was a real geek. I soon moved out to Los Angeles and ran into Herb again, and in his sweet, disarming way, he suggested that we work together again. I agreed to it and that was my real first, proper photo shoot. That's when I got 'Herbified.' [It] was the beginning of an incredibly long and fruitful working relationship. But it was also the beginning of a great friendship."

The book is Herb Ritts: The Golden Hour: A Photographer's Life and His World (Rizzoli, October 26, 2010) by Charles Churchward with a foreword by Ritts's male Madonna, Richard Gere.

Underwear As Outerwear Comments (3)

31Z9SuBebNL._SL500_AA300_ As reported by MadonnaTribe, along with the badly kept secret that Madonna is working on an official book of all her greatest seen and unseen photos, September or October will see the release of a massive new Rizzoli book devoted to Herb Ritts entitled The Golden Hour. (The title refers to the first and the last hour of sunlight during a day, the best time for photography in natural light.)

MadonnaMouse2 I've learned exclusively that one never-before-seen image of Madonna that will be included is of Madonna with...men's underwear on her head.

It sounds like—if you listen here to Madonna's eulogy for Ritts—this image might be from their very first encounter, on the set of Desperately Seeking Susan.

Forget about Mickey Mouse ears, this I gotta see!
