Entertainment Weekly (June 29, 2012) has an interesting feature on the "new art of coming out" in Hollywood. In a nutshell, the magazine points out that many of the celebrities who've made if official in the years since Ellen's "Yep, I'm gay" splash have done so in low-key ways or as an afterthought. This removes the defensive argument many people make about gay public figures not having to march in pride parades—that was never the point. The point was making it official, and more and more are doing so.
Sidenote: Above is the newsstand cover, but the subscription cover needs space for a mailing address so loses two faces. The two who were considered expendable: Jane Lynch and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
As of midnight last night, it was exactly six years since my first post. It's been a tough thing to keep up with a dayjob and outside activities, and just when I think I might walk away, a valuable connection or interesting opportunity or a kind word comes my way. Thank you all for reading me.
Of whom are you more jealous?
Here are my favorite 100+ posts out of nearly 11,000. Please take some time to read (or re-read!) a couple and tweet or Facebook any you like.

Gotta love the new feature The VIP Q Movie Pick by Jenni Olson for The Bilerico Project. For starters, Jane Lynch has the good taste to choose Desert Hearts, a 1985 flick hotter than the friction between the Brokeback Mountain boys' front and back entries. Jane says she watched it some 50 times one summer—and I don't doubt it.
In TV Guide (August 15—28, 2011), Jane Lynch comments on her character Sue Sylvester running for political office:
"She's going to run on the platform of 'Lets get rid of the arts and cut all the entitlements.' She's basically running as Michele Bachmann, without the crazy 'I hate homosexuals' bit."
Hyperion's for-women-by-women Voice imprint will publish a new book by Glee's Jane Lynch, a "funny and inspiring memoir" called Happy Accidents, in September of this year.
Lynch says:
"If I could go back in time and have a conversation with my 18-year-old self, the first thing I'd say it, 'Lose the perm.' Second, I would say, 'Relax. Really—just relax. Don't sweat it.' For a long time, I was anxious and fearful that the parade would pass me by, and that someone or something outside myself had all the answers. Having finally reached a happy place—a happy accidents place—I want to share my story with others, to let them know things aren't as bad as they fear."
