Even though Chelsea Manning did wrong — and helped put WikiLeaks on the map — President Obama has decided that her nearly seven years behind bars, a comparatively long time for her misdeed, was enough: He is commuting the rest of her sentence.
Chelsea Manning. who has said she is at the end of her rope, will be freed in May.
Will Snowden be next? He can't be pardoned as he fled and there was no trial. But perhaps some kind of olive branch.
Among the more than 200 other pardons/commutations Obama issued, he has pardoned former Studio 54 owner Ian Schrager, now a rich hotel owner:
