Madonna Ciccone Gives Good Face: 22 Years Of "Vogue" Comments (9)

Madonna Vogue
TrevvieLand has edited a fabulous retrospective of all the best footage of Madonna performing "Vogue" over the years. It's a real salute to how this song—even with its distinctively 1990 sound—never ages. The same could be argued for Madonna, or not, depending on your definition.

Madonna Vogue Super BowlIs "Vogue" her best song ever? I would say it has to be in her Top 3, along with "Into the Groove" and "Like a Prayer".

Her many reinterpretations look all the more brilliant one after another. All the more spectacular is the fact that some of these totally different takes were concocted within months of each other, while others are decades apart...

IMG_7536Prove it!

As of midnight last night, it was exactly six years since my first post. It's been a tough thing to keep up with a dayjob and outside activities, and just when I think I might walk away, a valuable connection or interesting opportunity or a kind word comes my way. Thank you all for reading me.

Emmy's Grammys Comments (15)

Madonna's first Grammy nomination was for 1985's "Crazy for You," her first win was not until 1992 and she won no significant Grammys until 1999 (for Ray of Light). To date, she has nine wins and, by my count, 30 nominations. (At the rate she's going, Katy Perry should surpass that in an album or so...)

Madonna-4-280x400 This year, the Grammy nominations failed to include her for her Sticky & Sweet Long Form Music Video—even though it was quite a spectacular show not to mention the #1 solo tour of all time.

But David Guetta was nominated for his remixing services on "Revolver," a song a lot of Madonna's fans despise (I still like it, sorry!).

Here is his Grammy-nominated remix, the "One Love Club Remix":

Boy Culture Turns 5: My Favorite Posts Comments (23)

6a00d8341c2ca253ef00e54f16b6088833-800wi

Img_0736As of midnight tonight, it will be exactly five years since my first post. It's hard to imagine it's been that long, and a lot's changed—the tone and subject matter are different, how often I post, my limits (no nudity in a couple of years due to ad constraints). I've devoted a crazy amount of time and money and energy to this blog for a very small financial return (you couldn't guess low enough), but it's always rewarding to have this forum with which to express myself, keep my writing ability fluid, perhaps influence a couple of people here and there, share obsessions with strangers (in both senses of the word) and learn new things.

6wzn3lxTake That's Howard...can you believe this happened onstage at a pop concert?

Here are some of the posts that were most important to Boy Culture's history. For the uninitiated, some of the oldest ones refer to Boy Culture, the movie made of my novel; I started the blog at the time Boy Culture was being filmed as a way to keep people informed of the progress...and it all snowballed from there.

Some of these posts are milestones when it comes to the hits they provided but most are filled with original writing and/or photography and video and are just the posts of which I'm proudest. I hope you'll take some time to click on them and send their links around to others—and some time is what you'll need...

Spilled Latte Comments (11)

Another Hard Candy leak, this time the rumored track "Latte". Hey, looks like she was playing with the gypsy stuff prior to scotching this and resuscitating parts for her live "La Isla Bonita" extravaganza on Sticky & Sweet.

Pretty, unassuming little song. Also hear some "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You" in there.

Who's That Homegirl? Comments (1)

Meck's "Feels Like Home" was a big hit in 2007, eventually attracting Madonna, who performed it in a show-stopping mash-up with "Like a Prayer" for Sticky & Sweet.

Now, with Madonna-like singer Dino added, "Feels Like a Prayer" is reborn as a single and video in its own right.

Damaged Goods Comments (5)

Via All About Madonna: Damages is one of the best shows I've ever seen, at least judging by this (last?) season, and of course Glenn Close has given many an amazing performance—she's got that acting-world gravitas, baby. That's why it sort of surprised me to read that she is an out-and-out Madonna fan...I guess I always worry that the Hollywood elite still look down on her (they probably do, when she whips out her plans to direct a fil-um)...maybe I'm too much like Madonna was onstage before singing "Sooner Or Later" at the Oscars, expecting the worst for her!

Glenn tells the Daily Record (I know, but it sounds real) she loves the Erotica album:

"Oh, my God...get on YouTube and watch Madonna's 'Bad Girl' video, man! [Laughs] That album is just genius and I guess it has so many memories for me and the first time I ever saw her live in MSG, I saw her live in 2008 and I got the chance to go backstage and I was so scared! [Laughs] But she is lovely and she is a fan of Damages, so not a bad compromise, right?"

So much for Madonna not watching TV. Maybe her assistants have convinced her Damages is a movie series, like the James Bond flicks?

51HqW3BH4ZL._SL500_AA240_ Pop Eater has an exclusive preview of Madonna's Sticky & Sweet DVD (out April 6 in the U.S.) Unfortunately, it's her performance of "4 Minutes," one of the show's least exciting numbers thanks to Timberlake and Timbaland's parts being canned. Looks good, though, and I'm sure fans will be pleased with the full DVD.

Now...Re-Invention? Blond Ambition?

Tool086_packshot_175px Fans of Sticky & Sweet might be excited to hear that the show-stopping "Like a Prayer"/"Feels Like Home" mash-up will be commercially released.

"Feels Like a Prayer" by Meck feat. Dino already has mixes. As a friend notes, no Madonna vocals are heard in the snippets...?
