With thanks to Keith (follow him on Twitter): Liz Rosenberg and Interscope (Warner who?) have dropped an info-packed press release on all of Madonna's accomplishments of the week: Madonna by the numbers!
Most interesting to me:
Madonna's halftime show at the Super Bowl drew an average of 114 million viewers, making it the most-watched halftime show (and one of the most-watched ANYTHINGS) in history. The Super Bowl overall averaged 111.3 million viewers, making it the most-watched broadcast in history, and peaked with 117 million viewers toward the end. Seems to be selling some music for her, too.
Just for shits and giggles, here are all the celeb tweets—mostly good, some bad—regarding Madonna's performance. Send me any others you fine and I'll keep this as a living record, a sort of glitterati (because some of these people stretch the definition of "celeb" let alone "stars"!) reactions...
More after the jump...
This is the level at which Republicans think. This racist ad ran during the Super Bowl. Whoever this actress is (she can't even pretend to speak broken English well), she should be ashamed...
Other people—some of them gay!—are having big days or weeks musically. Gay rapper (and hot person) ROB.B (pictured) is teasing a mix tape, and Adam Lambert—having been defended by GLAAD and Yahoo! against vicious threats—is releasing a new video and being tapped to front Queen. Video after the jump...
Madonna's Super Bowl presser (great stuff here) and interview together were adorable—she is harping on this "I'm nervous" thing to much it's making me nervous! But it sets her up well for scoring an artistic touchdown (via lowered expectations) or for fumbling (poor thing told us she was nervous!). I loved seeing her fielding questions from the kind of regular joes who don't usually get within 100 miles of her, loved the dumb-ass A-Rod question (below) and looooved her spontaneous lambada. She's approaching this humbly and taking this shit seriously. Let's hope M.I.A. is not off her meds...
Madonna's Bridgestone Super Bowl Halftime Show promises to be something to remember for all of us, but perhaps the most excited person there will be Lil Buck. Who??? You remember, the dude who won Madonna's dance-off sponsored at part of the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project. He's going to be there dancing alongside Madonna, and he's even featured in her "Give Me All Your Luvin'" video:
"Joining Madonna's dance crew has been a dream come true. I have already (learned) so much and cannot thank Smirnoff enough for this life-changing opportunity."
This news also brings word that Smirnoff is in bed with Madonna—the drink will appear in the music video for "Give Me All Your Luvin'" as "the drink of choice in the video's bar scene."
Meanwhile, TMZ's Harvey Levin thinks Madonna is out of touch and condescending (UM...that would be like Madonna accusing him of being blonde), but then humility isn't really a positive attribute in an artist, let alone a pop icon.
Now that we have seen a peek at her Super Bowl stage, I must say I'm in love with Madonna's MDNA cover, which was released via her official Facebook page—the colors are beautiful, it's a great Mert & Marcus shot and the paneling of the face and slashes through the lettering echo the paneling of her triptych single cover. Here are some instant images it reminds me of, though I like that it doesn't feel like a retread...
"Fuck—you!" [Smiles with satisfaction]
Via MadonnaTribe: Absolutely love the official art for "Give Me All Your Luvin'," which has a lot of energy and style. Love the treatment of the title on Madonna's top. (Fritz thinks that because presenting a person in triptych has occurred before, that makes this somewhat unoriginal. I think Madonna's triptych has a unique, demanding vibe and don't believe it's important for a single cover to be 100% unrecognizable as anything that's ever been done.)
Thought of this cover because of its resemblance to the third pic above
Madonna's triptych "Give It 2 Me" came out June 4, 2008, before Whitney or Mariah's (dramatically different anyway) covers
Even more in love with the info that "Give Me All Your Luvin'" will be released on February 3 and that iTunes will have an exclusive pre-order of an 18-track deluxe edition of MDNA (including a remix of one song) from February 3—February 6 for just $9.99. Starting February 3, go here for the offer.
