Once Spent, Can Love Be Earned Back? Comments (10)

Madonna MDNA
Of course no one can make all their fans happy all the time, but Madonna seems to have a special knack for making all her Australian fans unhappy all the time, canceling the Aussie leg of her MDNA Tour that was openly discussed as happening until a sudden change of heart/wallet.

Madonna cancels MDNA world tour AustraliaShe'll kangaroo the day she canceled on them!

Another semi-douche move (unless you're Parisian!) was announcing an amazing-sounding gig in Paris out of the blue—and putting tickets on sale in the middle of the night for those crazy fans overseas who might've made the trek. The fact that her Paris gig on July 26 will be live-streamed DOES help ease the pain of that last-minute sale, even if I hear it was darn near impossible to get through to buy tickets online.

Will the show be any different from her regular MDNA show? I'm thinking yes. The press release didn't make it sound like she would just do her same show, and fans have told me Madonna & Co. have rehearsed "Love Spent", "Beautiful Killer" and "Physical Attraction" at various Euro soundchecks. In Copenhagen, where she rehearsed "Love Spent", Madonna told fans they were "working on something special for Paris."

Speaking of which, what mix of "Love Spent" is this? It was captured in its partial glory at a recent outing to NYC's XL:

Ultimately, all will be forgiven by most of Madonna's diehard fans. I just wish she could fly her ass to Australia in 2013 and do a smaller version of her show—or even just a whole different, less choreographed "thank you" concert. Wouldn't give her lots of money ("I wish you would hold me like you hold your money"), but it would earn her lots of love.

Just Wanna Get In My Car Comments (5)

Madonna-Turn-Up-The-Radio-Sunset-Blvd"Max! Take me to the studio!"

With thanks to Corey, either Madonna has a car fetish when it comes time to shoot a music video or there are "limits to her imagination" (with thanks to Anthony for this hilarious, car-related link):

BOY CULTURE REVIEW: **-1/2 out of 4

Madonna has unleashed her "Turn Up the Radio" video over at VEVO. It's cute and has a whimsy that is befitting of the song, though there is also a strange stilted quality, like the abandon of the music can't be caught up with by Tom Munro's blown-out, '60s visuals. Madonna looks good and there is a narrative (of sorts...why are the madding crowds initially annoying but then becomea source of jubilation?), so for a third video from an album, it's not bad. It's just not a video to become obsessed with. Glad she made it one at all!

Madonna Turn Up the Radio
The teaser for Madonna's "Turn Up the Radio" music video—which was directed by Tom Munro and which debuts Monday here—is fun. Simply taking her out of a studio and onto the streets (in Italy) makes it less canned than "Give It 2 Me" and "Celebration", and she looks to be having fun.

Ciao, Madonna: "Taking A Risk And Being An Artist" Comments (4)

Madonna
Madonna is pinned down for some great interviews while in Italy, where my spies tell me the crowds have been the most enthusiastic. In the first, she speaks about the concept behind her MDNA Tour and why she isn't on Twitter.

Madonna gang bangMadonna, a little cross

And here, check out a 42:36 (!) streaming Deejay: Popcake special devoted to Madonna with fantastic footage from the tour (especially of the atmosphere for fans)

Madonna gives a fabulous interview in Italy, in which she describes arriving in Rome as a homecoming (not to mention her first few days off in months). Particularly interesting is her explanation of how she put her MDNA Tour together.

Tits A Kind Of Magic Comments (7)

Madonna's '60s look on the Italian set of her "Turn Up the Radio" music video reminds me strongly of her look 20 years ago with Jean Paul Gaultier and Tony Ward as seen in Italian Moda. I hope the video is as much of a blast as the song is—it really would have been a smarter first single, Super Bowl or no Super Bowl. And you know, it just might be—it's directed by Jonas Akerlund. It's directed by Tom Munro.

Nicki-minaj-roman-reloaded-deluxe-2012-03-09-300x300Nicki Minaj is someone I...really don't get. I want to get her, but I don't. I will say that my impression of her has a Lady Gaga clone (clown?) is only based on her fashion sense as none of her songs has sounded much like Gaga (right?), least of all "Beez in the Trap." With an impressive 6.5 million views in a few days, the video ballsily starts out with, "Bitches say shit and they ain't say nothin'" before...well...she says shit and says nothing:

But I wouldn't go this far—this is the top comment on the video at the moment:

Lovely. Nicki's Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is out now and looks like it will be #1 on Billboard next week with over 220,000 or so sold. I wonder how many copies are due to the presence of this little number all over NYC:

Madonna In The Mix Comments (7)

Madonna MDNA"That's for making me work so fucking hard!"

(1) I enjoyed this surprise party for Madonna in celebration of MDNA going to #1 in 22 countries (including the U.S.). Madonna is so clueless at first since they're yelling "surprise!" and "B-Day Song" is playing. She's probably thinking, "Not yet, assholes!"

Max Happy Endings(2) Also, ABC's hysterical, underrated show Happy Endings had a plot featuring its gay character's past in an all-male Madonna tribute band (these should exist!) called Mandonna. It was really sweet and funny, and my pal Stephen Guarino continues to be the Karen Walker of the show—hard to do when every single cast member has great timing and brings something to the table.

Madonna Quentin TarantinoPoster-art brilliance from here

and, most importantly...

(3) I was on Larry Flick's Morning Jolt show today with fellow superfan Sergio Kletnoy. We mixed it up about MDNA and I had a (friendly) debate with sidekick Keith Price about celebrities who come out either after their greatest success OR in conjunction with something they're trying to sell. Those bears are never hibernating, honey. Here is part one, and here is part two, or listen up here:
