The Screening Room Is Full Comments (2)

I attended New Fest's screening of Boy Culture last night at 8PM on 34th—introduced humbly by producer Victor Simpkins (sorry I couldn't find you after!) to see if there would still be enough bottoms to fill the seats after so many well-attended TriBeCa screenings, and to gauge the reaction of a specifically queer crowd. It was sold out, with several people sitting in the aisle leading to the door, and the response was as enthusiastic as any I've seen yet. The crowd laughed at lines that in the past have elicited chuckles, howled at the laugh lines and roared at the howl lines—it was all kicked up a notch. As we left, some men behind us were talking about the movie and one said, "Well...fabulous. It's so good to end on such a high note." Tell me about it, sister! Everyone was swarming the hosts to hand in their response slips—I don't believe in bad luck so I don't mind saying, as an interested third party, that I think Allan's film has a shot at winning an audience award. Unless My 10-Inch Dick And How Guys React To It or something like that was also on the program. ’Cuz, I mean, y'know, even I would have voted for that. If not, I bet he's at least in the running. Up next is San Francisco! But I won't see it again till OutFest.
