In the context of a list of 30 Gay Actors Who Play Straight Characters (um...all gay actors have played straight characters at some point or another, even Paul Lynde), the site Ranker has casually outed John Mahoney, most famous as “Martin Crane” on Frasier.

The site explains:

“John Mahoney does not speak publicly about his personal life, but it is widely known that the actor is gay.”

Interesting rationale, but...why is the list filled with profesionally out (and a few dead) gay actors and only one who is not on the record as being gay? If they're going to out actors, why Mahoney and not, say, George Clooney or John Travolta? Is it a power thing?
