Had a blast at my friend Guy Olivieri's premiere of his sitcom pilot FreakMe tonight in TriBeCa.
I didn't realize it was the kind of affair at which one would find the cast and a step-and-repeat, or I would've brought my real camera and covered it more thoroughly. But I was happy to meet Mindy Cohn, who plays against type as salty (to put it mildly) badwill ambassador “April,” the least gung-ho worker at the offices of an imaginary hook-up site/app called FreakMe. (Mindy was serving full-on Florence Stanley with a potty mouth in this!)
The whole cast was hysterical in the episode—Kathy Searle, Ryan Duncan, Patti Goettlicher, Rob Maitner and Guy himself, who wrote, produced and stars in it—with especially loud guffaws for Goettlicher's grinning, ambitious ex-pornstar and Maitner's hard-up homo, who takes the time-worn cliché of a man sitting on the bathroom floor playing with tampons and breathes new life into it.
It's very funny and bluer than Joan Rivers, so I'm hopeful it will find its way onto Netflix or an adventurous cable network or somewhere.
