Colton Haynes Kinda Comes Out Comments (0)

In reposting a comment regarding his “secret gay past,” Colton Haynes has more or less come out by questioning whether it was all that secret to begin with.

This is such a tired argument that closeted celebrities make all the time, the assertion that they were really out all long just because they were out to their friends.

Not true.

The definition of being professionally, publicly out is being on the record affirming you are gay. You don't have to do a People cover, you don't have to release a book, but you do have to say it. It has to be a stated fact of who you are. (This is what it means to be out; I'm not saying every gay person or gay celebrity has to come out, I'm just saying this gay celebrity was not previously out and shouldn't play dumb.)

Even more interestingly, Haynes wasn't just glass-closeted, he had lawyers harassing people on the Internet for posting images of him kissing a dude in an old issue of XY. Those images are hard to find because of that robust, behind-the-scenes effort. So yeah, Colton, it was a secret. Or at least, that is how it was perceived. And you allowed that perception to persist.

That said, none of it makes him a bad guy. He seems like a lot of fun, and I think everyone can get behind his caption:

Let's all just enjoy life and have no regrets :)
