Terry Wogan, whom many Madonna fans remember for his classic Truth or Dare-era sit-down with the Queen of Pop, has died at 77.

In a statement, his family said:

Sir Terry Wogan died today after a short but brave battle with cancer. He passed away surrounded by his family. While we understand he will be missed by many, the family ask that their privacy is respected at this time.

Wogan was a philanthropist whose involvement in the BBC Children in Need cause went back decades. He had unexpectedly pulled out of the latest one due to his failing health.
