Robert Osbourne, The Hollywood Reporter's “Rambling Reporter” who hosted Turner Classic Movies with elegance and wit, has died at 84, THR reports.

TCM's GM Jennifer Dorian said:

Robert was embraced by devoted fans who saw him as a trusted expert and friend. His calming presence, gentlemanly style, encyclopedic knowledge of film history, fervent support of film preservation and highly personal interviewing style all combined to make him a truly world-class host. Robert's contributions were fundamental in shaping TCM into what it is today, and we owe him a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.

Osborne had begun his career acting, and was considered a mentee of Lucille Ball.

Who hasn't enjoyed a classic movie hosted on TCM by this man, and who wasn't impressed by his knowledge of and respect for film?
