There is so little information on whatever became of the majority of gay male porn stars of the '70s and '80s, it's a real service when Shawn Mayotte writes his heartfelt tributes.
Mayotte was making a mint in print (and as an escort) at the time others were deeply involved in hardcore, but he knew many of them, some quite well.

His latest remembrance, of gay-household name Tim Kramer — who died of AIDS 25 years ago today — is really touching, painting a portrait of a forward-thinking entrepreneur whose moonlighting in the sex trade at the wrong time shortened what may have otherwise been a more eventful life.
From Shawn's piece on Kramer, born Douglas Murrell Cooper:
Doug was smart and he knew the value of the “Tim Kramer” brand. I remember when he told me about a solar installation company he wanted to invest in, and though I saw the potential, he saw the future. When he was diagnosed HIV+, he started an AIDS support group and began promoting safe sex. He truly cared about others. He became very ill in 1991 and passed away in 1992.
Doug, you taught me how to stay strong and care for others even when we’re in pain. I know your star shined bright and brief, but you made a difference in many people’s lives, including mine. If you were here today, you’d be thrilled to see that you were right: Solar was the future. I cried when you died, but I know you’re in heaven making it a happier place for others. You taught me a lot about life and thinking ahead.
