Via Time: At an emotional, 30-plus-minute press conference alongside her new publicist Lisa Bloom, Kathy Griffin confronted the controversy swirling around the image of herself holding a mask representing the severed head of Donald Trump.
Griffin, who has apologized and stands by the apology, said tearfully:
I don't think I'm going to have a career after this. I'm going to be honest. He broke me. A sitting president of the United States and his grown children and the First Lady, personally, I feel, are trying to ruin my life forever.
Saying the photo was meant to parody Trump's grotesque comment that Megyn Kelly had “blood coming out of her wherever” following a feud with Trump, Griffin admitted her old friend Anderson Cooper's condemnation, in particular, “hurt.”
If you don't stand up, you get run over. — Kathy Griffin
She also vowed to make fun of Trump more than ever, and took exception to Melania's suggestion that Kathy may be mentally ill, saying:
I think there's a lot of people in this administration that seem, like, super nuts, and I think it's weird that [the media] or anybody's acting like they're not.
I am still Team Kathy — it's not even close! — but wish she would walk away and regroup for a while so the media can focus on Russia and the Paris Climate Accord and health care. I did definitely appreciate that “super nuts” remark — which is a good observation.
