Garfield with a gay friend of mine, who isn't the gayest-seeming person in the pic! (Image via John D. Lee)
So Andrew Garfield has come out as gay — except without the sex part.
No but seriously #AndrewGarfield as #Whitney. Thanks @michellevisage. #WerqTheWorld pic.twitter.com/G6J4Vzzlwu

In other words, he's Hugh Grant in Maurice.
I'm on board with it.
UPDATE: This has turned into quite a mainstream kerfuffle, one I didn't expect. To be as accurate as possible — without a recording of what he said — the quote being attributed to Garfield came after a co-star joked that he had gotten so into his role that he is now gay, to which Garfield is reported to have said:
My only time off during rehearsals – every Sunday — I would have eight friends over and we would just watch [RuPaul's Drag Race]. This is my life outside of this play. I am a gay man right now just without the physical act – that’s all.
This does not seem to be any serious claim that he knows our pain and has walked in our high heels. Or flats. It's just a friendly joke. I really don't think he deserves the venom about straight white male privilege being spewed on social media. But that's my take.
