Yen Tan is an exciting filmmaker — I vividly recall his movie Ciao (2008) — and his newest, 1985, looks to continue that trend.

It's about a young man who returns home during the first wave of the AIDS crisis and the complex relationships he attempts to cultivate (and possibly find closure on).

Tan's latest opens October 26.
