John Glines, a playwright and producer who won a Tony for Torch Song Trilogy and thanked his male partner — a first on TV — died at 84 Wednesday morning in Bangkok, Broadway World reports.
Glines was acclaimed for his work in the theater, also taking home a Drama Desk Award for Torch Song; receiving a Drama Desk Award and a Tony nomination for his work on As Is (1985); and winning a third Drama Desk Award for Whoop-Dee-Doo! (1994), the latter of which I saw and it was amazing.
He was a founding member of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Glines worked on many plays, and also wrote for Captain Kangaroo and Sesame Street.
