Day 1 Of RuPAUL'S DRAGCON NYC: The Dawning Of The Age Of Aquaria Comments (0)

I'm all set up with press access to RuPaul's DragCon NYC this weekend, and decided to rush over this evening after work to see if it was worth spending 90 minutes in the Javits Center. It was!

The show will be packed to the high heels tomorrow and Sunday, but tonight, it was manageable, allowing me to get most of the star-attraction queens (except Katya) to agree to some photos.

Keep reading for my report, and come back for more by Monday ...

First, I ran into Kalorie Karbdashian as I went into the venue. She was stunning in royal blue, and — of course — had a pal to hold her phone while she posed. All the queens need one of these!

No red carpet would be complete without my old co-worker Joe Drake, who is now an on-air personality for OK! He's always been more than okay. Look at those lines.

IMG_6894_newSo many sexy men at the Con!

Right off the bat, a very sweet guy working the Lambda Legal booth recognized me and praised me for my blog, saying he enjoys when I do run-downs of events. So there goes my plan to just post photos of this one! The LL booth had adorable models, some camera-shy (one of them a porn star who probably didn't want to be seen as booth bait).

IMG_6808_newI was an especially big fan of the one with the fan!

Walking around it was all about figuring out which queens with booths would let me, as press, hop in to grab some photos without waiting on line. I wound up getting everyone (who hadn't left) except Katya — her people were adamant that she would be too tired. Not a big deal, and I had a lot of fun killing time seeking colorful attendees to shoot between bagging gay-household names.

I did snag quite a few queens, by the way, including Eureka O'Hara (Shoot me from the tits up, please!) to Asia O'Hara to Trinity Taylor Monique Heart to an outta-drag Dusty Ray Bottoms.

Gotta say that I especially loved shooting Miss Fame — she never disappoints.

I was also able to meet a slew of queens I'd never heard of before, all of them happy to pose and chit-chat, including a sweet Flaminia (DRAG QUEEN - FASHION MODEL - JEW), the vivacious duo DoubleOSexy and bearded lady Helvetika.

Screen Shot 2018-09-29 at 1.24.46 AMThe rumors are true — Flaminia charges!

IMG_6918*****_new2 non-blondes

IMG_6954*****_newHelvetika was anything but basic.

My biggest surprise was bumping into those sexy Zakar Twins. Love them both — such works of art — but always had a special crush on Zach, who was very cuddly and sporting a half-tee. They were presiding over a flash sale of their excellent book Pray Away the Gay, and told me they're seeking the perfect drag queen to play their mom in a movie version (shhh!).
