German pop singer Kim Petras is 26, trans and experiencing a taste of U.S. Top 40 success with her single “Heart to Break.”
I found Kim to be charming and adorable.
She's weathered controversy (she supported her collaborator Dr. Luke, who was accused of abusing Kesha) and endured scrutiny as — at the time — the so-called world's youngest transgender kid to undergo SRS 10 years ago.
In the meantime, she's dedicated herself to the craft of making fun pop music, moving to L.A. and working hard for a couple of years with no bites before Fergie recorded one of her tracks.
At Wednesday evening's Saks Fifth Avenue Fearless Women Speaker Series, Petras was resplendent in Prada, answering questions and performing “Hillside Boys,” “Can't Do Better,” a cover of “Human” by the Killers and “Heart to Break.” She then spent time with her fans, signing and posing for everyone there.
Check out her new, Halloween-themed EP Turn Off the Light, Vol. 1.
