TRUE CRIME DAILY: 12 killed, gunman dead, after a man entered the Borderline Bar in Thousand Oaks, Callifornia, late Wednesday night, dressed all in black, and shot the place up using what is so far being described as a handgun with a large clip. No word yet on who the suspect is or possible motive, but a law enforcement officer, who is among the deceased, is being hailed as a hero for charging into the bar to try to help — a month before his scheduled retirement.
HUFF POST: Lucy McBath, a gun-control advocate, has now officially won GA-6, a House set in a very red Georgia district just a year after GOPer Karen Handel had won it in the single most expensive House campaign in history. McBath was not expected to win! In other Georgia news, Kemp has declared victory in the gubernatorial race, but Abrams has refused to concede as votes continue to be counted, narrowing his lead. He's currently at 50.3%. If he dips under 50%, a recount is required by law. Kemp has famously disenfrancished tens of thousands of voters, something that's been made easier since he is Georgia's secretary of state — and the state's top elections officer.
BBC: Trump fired AG Jeff Sessions. forcing him to submit an undated letter of resignation that could've been written anytime, one in which Sessions carefully states that the resignation is at Trump's request.
CNN: Matthew Whitaker, Sessions's chief of staff, is now the interim AG, per Trump. Whitaker has zero qualifications for the role, other than an oft-stated disdain for the Mueller probe, about which he has written that someone overseeing Mueller could reduce “(Mueller's) budget so low that his investigation grinds to almost a halt.”
Whitaker has a history working for a scam hot tub company, and auditioning for Trump by defending him on CNN regularly.
This is not a serious person with a respect for the rule of law. He is an attorney, but one without ethics, and he also probably feels he is part of a right-wing revolution that won't have to answer to anybody or anything as long as the POTUS has his back. He is more than capable of firing Mueller and not caring about the consequences.
TAMPA BAY TIMES: Speaking of sycophants, Pam Bondi, Florida's ditzy AG, is being talked about as Trump's pick to replace Sessions — she'll be free for the gig soon, and like Whitaker is a MAGAt.
LAW & CRIME: Top Dems — includng Pelosi, Schumer and Harris — have called on Whitaker to recuse himself in the Mueller probe becausae he has made clear he is against it, but a top ethics expert claims that's not enough of a reason for him to have to recuse.
THE HILL: If Mueller is fired, House Dems — the new majority in 2019 — will bring Mueller in for televised hearings.
NYMAG: Don Jr. knows he is about to be indicted.
YOUTUBE: Trump got into a vicious, petty attack on CNN's Jim Acosta Wednesday, insulting him for being rude (uh ...) and later revoking Acosta's White House pass indefinitely. Part of the reasoning for the banning? A doctored-by-Infowars video clip in which an unnamed White House press aide tries unsuccessfully to yank a mic from Acosta's hand, a clip the White House is claiming shows Acosta putting his hands on the aide — even though it's the other way around.
