GAY INFLUENCE: The story of Francis Davis Millet and Archibald, two apparently gay men who went down on the Titanic while saving the lives of others, is one I'd never heard — and they're memorialized with a monument near the White House:

The two “devoted friends” shared a house in DC, even though Millet had married (his wife lived elsewhere). Butt described Millet as “my artist friend who lives with me.” Their only recorded spat was over the wallpaper Millet had chosen for their home (too many red and pink roses for Butt’s taste). Their live-in Filipino houseboys served presidents, cabinet members, ambassadors and Supreme Court justices during lavish parties and dinners the male hosts were famous for. President Taft wept openly when he learned that Butt had perished in the Titanic tragedy, yet the two well-connected men have been forgotten with the passage of time.

THE GUARDIAN: Midnight Cowboy, which is now 50, isn't homophobic just because it shows homophobia.

KTLA: Las Perlas bar (107 E. 6th St., L.A.) in L.A. was the site this weekend of a shocking (and videoed) expulsion of a group of trans women. The group was verbally attacked with transphobic slurs, and the bouncers escorted out the cis women but (as you can see) forcibly dragged out the trans girls.

The group was made up of staff and volunteers from Bienestar Human Services, a non-profit social services organization for Latino and LGBTQ groups. They say they were unfairly treated because of their identity.

They were at the bar celebrating the first day of a local LGBTQ festival when they were approached by a man and a woman who “who began to aggressively misgender them, call them 'men' and shout transphobic slurs,” Bienestar said in a news release.

“The group of trans women tried to de-escalate the situation, then the couple shouted and threatened the group by saying, 'We will come back and kill you,'” the non-profit said.

Shocking:

Las Perlas claimed two groups were being rowdy (uh, one of them was being attacked, but okay), so the trans girls were removed in accordance with company policy. In accordance with company policy, they're gonna get their asses boycotted, sued and will lose. No excuse for that.
