File this under the best news you've heard all day: Billy Eichner will develop and star in Man in the Box, the life story of the troubled actor Paul Lynde.

The life of the TV party, Lynde was a glass-closeted gay who for many of us was the first hint of what a queer man could be. His story is compelling, as were his relatable neuroses. The people I know who knew him rave about his ability to be funny while reminding me that he could also go dark and become morose and embittered.

Sounds like a good movie to me.

In his Deadline interview, Eichner notes:

There is no gay Tom Hanks in this country. There is no gay Will Ferrell. There’s no gay Steve Carell. There’s no gay Paul Rudd. There’s no gay Kevin Hart. There’s no gay Will Smith. The list goes on and on, and that’s not a coincidence. After a hundred years of making films, it’s not a coincidence. It’s not that they just haven’t been able to find the right gay man, who has enough talent to have a career like that.
