In a bombshell story in The Atlantic, Trump is quoted as nixing a visit to Aisne-Marne American Cemetery outside Paris not due to logistical reasons involving the weather, but because he was scared his hair would get messy in the rain, and also because he did not think it was very important to honor our war dead, calling them “losers.” On his same French trip, Trump referred to the 1,800+ Marines who died at Belleau Wood as “suckers” — for getting killed in the first place.
The story has been vetted, and was further verified by a senior Defense Department official.
A senior Defense Department official I just spoke with confirmed this story by @JeffreyGoldberg in its entirety. Especially the grafs about the late Sen. John McCain and former Marine Gen. John Kelly, President @realDonaldTrump former chief of staff. https://t.co/ol2lhBbgv8— James LaPorta (@JimLaPorta) September 3, 2020
Trump's loathing of and disrespect for the late Sen. John McCain is well-known. When McCain died, Trump told his staff, “We’re not going to support that loser’s funeral,” and said of flags being lowered to half-staff, “What the fuck are we doing that for? Guy was a fucking loser.”
The story is extremely damning, and it comes hot on the heels of a surprise poll that shows a plurality of U.S. troops will support his Democratic challenger, Joe Biden. The military usually swings to the right.
This story also comes a few months after former Secretary of Defense James Mattis, who oughtta know, described Trump as “a threat to the Constitution.”
Seems like Scaramucci knew this Atlantic piece was in the works.
Trump’s poll numbers are already abysmal, and there is a wave of damning information soon to come out. Can’t imagine how bad his numbers will be in a month. Drop out. Save yourself the humiliation @realDonaldTrump.— Anthony Scaramucci (@Scaramucci) September 2, 2020
