New Mexico House candidate Roger Montoya, an out gay man running as a Democrat, has been exposed by a right-wing publication as Joe Savage, an '80s Falcon model who once memorably flip-fucked with porn icon Jeff Converse in the 1985 movie Spring Training.
Montoya, 59, an artist in many mediums who has for 30 years been a landscape painter, issued what I would say is a rather unfortunate statement in that he expresses embarrassment for doing porn instead of just saying he did it for money as a broke young man, it was legal and who cares?
He said on Facebook of the movies, which he seems to claim were shot in 1982:
I am not proud of that choice, as I was young and naïve.
His full statement contextualizes his past:
The GOP, laughably, has said he should drop out of the race over his past appearances, shaming him for not practicing safe sex (it was quite early in the AIDS epidemic, and gay porn didn't even allow safe sex; Montoya tested positive for HIV in 1986). GOP Chairman Steve Pearce said:
This irresponsible and reckless behavior of starring in gay porno films, whether it takes place now or years ago, is unbecoming of any candidate or elected official. If you’re a public servant, you must be held to the highest standards.
Irresponsible and reckless? Try checking out the Blexit morons being feted at the White House today by a probably maskless COVID-19 patient.
What's more noteworthy in Montoya's past is his selection as a 2019 CNN Hero for his devotion to the arts in his community, providing kids and young adults with a form of expression outside of opioids and other negative temptations.
