For the gay people reacting to Colton Underwood coming out and daring to “monetize” it with a reality series: Don’t watch it. But it is progress when being gay can be monetized and when gay people can be marketed to... and it is also progress when that can seem boring. For him to come out took courage. No, he is not Harvey Milk, yes, it was harder coming out years ago, but for reasons that perplex me it has been demonstrated that it is still very hard for many people. So good for him. Some people expressing rage that young and cute people NEWSFLASH have more opportunities are behaving like they would be more comfortable had the news been that he had taken his life. Again, having a series or book or something tied to coming out is not evil. But if it makes you feel any better, it is almost unfathomable that a Netflix reality series about him coming out will last more than a season or leave him set for life ... and I still don’t believe you would not take that same deal and at least try to both earn some money and be positive.

NOBODY is gonna give me a Netflix show, but that doesn't mean I'm mad Colton will get his. It's like canceling student debt — it doesn't help me at this point, but it's karmically good.
