In a newly released 1995 sit-down for TCM, late gay actor Farley Granger candidly discusses his unorthodox career, and speaks about the making of Hitchcock's Rope.

Fascinatingly, he says nobody — not even the director — ever brought up the gay subtext, which is incredible because it was loosely inspired by gay thrill-killers Leopold & Loeb, and you would think the gay element would be talked about from a business perspective (agents protecting clients) if not also from a creative standpoint.

Hitch hired Granger and John Dall because he knew they were gay and shot a pretty obviously gay thriller — and the word was never used.
