QUEERTY: Dr. Matt Heinz, a politician currently on the Pima Board of Supervisors, is taking heat over a Board Zoom meeting, during which a young guy is seen behind him dressing. The guy is in black briefs (turns out it's a swimsuit) and a black tank, and it may seem to some that an assignation had taken place. UPDATE: Heinz has tweeted that this is a friend only, but also that it shouldn't matter, which is fair.

Heinz is openly gay and pro-LGBTQ, so while the slip is unfortunate and a little embarrassing, it should end there, right? No, of course not, because Republicans think any age gap = pedophilia, so he's being called a pedo, and to spice it up, all GOP-friendly reports on the incident refer to the young man as being in women's panties.

Heinz was in the news a decade ago for allegedly having slept with the icky gay Arizona Sheriff Babeu, a right-winger, and for being one of two Dems who voted to give Babeu millions to fight for, uh, border control. This bothers me.

UPDATE: While it was suggested he only meets with the Board via Zoom due to COVID, yet has done so from cruise ships, Heinz has since said he Zooms a lot due to his schedule. I believe if he was using COVID as an excuse then going on cruises, that is — much more than a background guest — worthy of pointed criticism. However, if he is Zooming due to his schedule, then he should be praised for juggling so many things at once.

A reader replied that I was too harsh on Heinz. Maybe so, but I am consistent in pointing out the idiocy of trumping up his travelmate's status. Right-wingers tried everything from pedophilia to transgender expression to make that part bigger than it was.

TWITTER: Rep. George Santos (R-New York, for now), who is definitely going down over his fraud and lies, stupidly gave an interview to equally loathed Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) in which he was asked where all that money he loaned his campaign came from. It didn't go too smoothly:
