INSTAGRAM (FOLLOWS APPRECIATED): Liza Minnelli has made it to 77! Happy birthday to the enduring and endearing icon. I told this story before, but my memory of her is when I was an assistant to a literary agent in Chicago in 1990, my boss had tons of celeb names on her Rolodex, and one of them — because she'd agented Vincente Minnelli's book — was Liza Minnelli's (estranged) stepmom. It was the house that would later become a bone of contention between Liza and Lee. But I sent Liza a Valentine's Day card and some tear sheets from her then-recent U.K. Vogue spread to sign — and she did! At the time, I think I envisioned her stepmom tersely handing them to her, Liza signing and running to the post office. In reality, I assume several middlemen were involved!
