NYT: Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) will not run for re-election, the end of a long and consequential political career. Disappointingly, because he's 76 (and nobody ever thinks of him as that old, I feel), he used his departure to tell Trump and Biden to quit due to their ages. This is not a fair comparison. Romney's retirement will undoubtedly lead to a Trumpublican, but regardless, it's a safe R seat. For Biden to leave after one term is to waste the power of incumbency. (It's also why Sen. Dianne Feinstein, California's venerable Dem, can't leave so freely — her departure would end the installment of federal judges, thanks to Republican unfairness.)
