KENNETH IN THE (212): People's Sexiest Man Alive seems good ... until you see Kenneth's.
GR8ERDAYS: Brace yourselves for Hall vs. Oates — Daryl Hall has filed for a restraining order against John Oates. Was it the mustache?!
NYC PRIDE: NYC Pride is accepting your nominations for grand marshal!
DAILY BEAST: An outfit gearing up for Trump 2 accidentally revealed several of its biggest private donors publicly — and they include two prominent liberal-leaning organizations.
THR: Melissa Barrera is a leftist idol after being canned from future Scream installments for her online rhetoric about Israel-Palestine. It is alarming to me how immediate the support for her was, grounded in the idea that she was being fired simply for being “pro-Palestinian,” and not for more inflammatory rhetoric, such as accusing Israel of running Gaza like a “concentration camp,” committing “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing,” etc. I feel Israel's treatment of Gaza has been dead-wrong for a long time, but I still think tossing those words around truly is inflammatory and an overstatement. It feels to me like “I'm just criticizing Israel” is quickly morphing into anti-Semitism ... under every thread on the topic are people going from reasonable Israeli critique to “Israel should not exist,” “nasty people,” “they control everything.” And people like Barrera are hiding under “pro-Palestinian” to say it. All that said, I still wouldn't fire her; I'd just disagree with/disavow her.
HAARETZ: As for Susan Sarandon, the asshole, don't get me started. She stated — excusing anti-Jewish violence and discrimination that are on the rise in the U.S. — as Jewish people beginning to see what it feels like to be Muslim here. QUOTE:
There are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country, so often subjected to violence.
That's gross, and it sounds approving. Anti-Semitic and Islamophobic behavior are abhorrent; why excuse one? I hate Sarandon, who blithely rooted for Trump in 2016 as a way of shaking things up. (I believe she voted for Stein, which was voting for Trump, period.) She's up to her old tricks, so fuck her.
TWITTER: In NYC, a former Obama official, Stuart Seldowitz, decided to flush his entire legacy and career by bullying a Muslim street vendor, harassing him multiple times, asking if he raped his daughter like Muhammed did and threatening him with deporation. Stuart Seldowitz later claimed not to be Islamophobic, and said he prolly shouldn't have said those things. Ya think?! Outrageous, entitled, racist behavior.
HUFF POST: In Oregon, voters approved one of the nation's strictest gun-control measures ... so of course a judge threw it out.
POLITICO: On the 60th anniversary of the JFK assassination — one of the only events to inspire legit conspiracy theories — it seems uniquely Democratic to write a piece speculating on whether he would have lost, had he lived, anyway.
VARIETY: It isn't that surprising that Matt Bomer was considered for Ken in Barbie, but ... Greta made him audition?
VARIETY: Russell Tovey on his new doc Life Is Excellent, about queer artist and poet David Robilliard:
I first learned about David at the ICA in London. There was a small exhibition there. Then he sort of was on my mind a lot. Then at the start of the pandemic, I rediscovered his writing poetry. I was so moved because I connected to it straightaway. It was written all through the late ‘80s, but it resonated with me now. I was like, “Why do we not know more about him?“ His art was so proudly queer and about love and jealousy and pain and loneliness and what it is to be gay. It was so outwardly queer at the time when you just didn’t do that. He was so proudly queer.
