NPR: Unsurprisingly, considering the raft of sexual assault allegations that have come out ahead of yesterday's expiration of the extended statute of limitations, legendary Broadway costume designer William Ivey Long has been sued. The new suit comes two years after artist Court Watson accused Long of improper behavior, which the six-time Tony winner denied. In the suite, Watson alleges “repeated grooming, sexual harassment, and ultimately rape at the hands of Long, with support from Long's associates, and RIHA — all of whom worked in conjunction to systematically perpetrate and cover up the sexual abuse being committed.” The abuse allegedly occurred over 20 years ago in North Carolina, and included Long taking advantage of Watson when he was drunk. This case may challenge opinions of people who think victims need to speak up immediately or shut up, as I think nothing about it feels noncredible. (An older suit by an employee from the same era bolsters Watson's claim.) Also worth noting that Long could have settled this and may have been hoping for the Adult Survivors Act to expire.
