It only took 30-plus years, but fabulous fan-shot footage of Bette Midler introducing Madonna, the night she accepted her APLA Award in 1990.

AIDS was less than a decade old, and the people of power who gave a damn about it had already shown themselves — and included Elizabeth Taylor (who was going to intro Madonna, but who was ill), Bette Midler (who did the honors with her usual snark and a big dollop of sincerity) and Madonna herself ...
