I was not feeling great Saturday, but I rallied in time to Uber over to Bookmarc (400 Bleecker St., NYC) for the Debbie Harry/Chris Stein book event.

The iconic exes were there to sign Chris's memoir Under a Rock, and were also signing various other official books — Chris's excellent Point of View, Debbie's semi-recent memoir Face It — and while I've been in their presence quite a few times, dear, I just thought I should go once more into the bleach because public appearances do not last forever.

I arrived at 3:10 p.m. for the 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. signing, and the line was around the block, literally. Very few people arrived behind us for the first hour or more, and the line crawled, thanks to the surprise that Debbie and Chris were taking time to chat a bit and allowed photos. Other times, no photos were permitted, so I just showed up with my phone.

We baked for two hours and were nervous they were not going to get to us, but not long before they called it a day, we had our moments.

Debbie looked Mondrian-chic and lovely with little if any makeup and giant sunglasses. Chris looked well, but remained seated. I wasn't able to speak to him in our few moments, as Debbie was closer to me, but I love this photo of us showing him with his head in his hand, like, “She gets all the love.”

I asked Debbie about the election. She isn't overly confident, but hopes for the best. She seemed fairly mind-blown that a woman was up against Trump, referring to it as almost “not logical,” but at least with this musical icon, there is no doubt where her vote is going. This was the only time I “met” Debbie where she held a conversation with me, and kept re-instigating it between photos (actually, she's talking in all my photos, which is fine by me), and even went back to it before we left.

I thanked her for doing the event, she thanked me for buying their books. It was well worth the wait, and I'm so sorry for anyone behind us who didn't make the cut.

Special gratitude to my friend Anthony Coombs for the photos and support, and to superfan Danny Echi, who very kindly took photos of me through the window!
