I'm so sad to read of the passing — at 70 — of disco and soul singer Evelyn Thomas.
She enjoyed minor success on the U.K. charts in the mid-'70s, but her 1984 song “High Energy” was her legacy, gospel-tinged stomper that shared a name with its style of music — hiNRG.
That song will never not transport me. It should be Kamala's walk-on music.
Thomas knew shew as dying, but no cause was specified. Her mentor Ian Levine announced her death and wrote beautifully of her work, their rift and their coming back together:
