The spirit of visual artist Brian Buczak (1954—1987) is memorialized in the fourth string quartet of Philip Glass, one of the composer’s most intimate works. In 2024, what would have been Buczak’s 70th year of life, the acclaimed Mivos Quartet will perform Glass’s tribute, originally commissioned by Buczak's life partner, artist Geoffrey Hendricks, in a free concert at the New York City AIDS Memorial organized by composer Nick Hallett. About the string quartet, Glass said he wished to create “a musical impression of Brian Buczak as a person as well as a tribute to his life’s work.” The performance will be preceded by remarks by Bracken Hendricks and Sur Rodney (Sur). Seating at the Memorial is limited and is first-come, first-serve.

He was one of the most all-American (in the old-fashioned sense) of the TV/movie Tarzans, and also banged up his body performing so many of his own stunts. He died after several years of ill health, and five years after his son, suffering a brain injury, stabbed his wife to death.
