DEADLINE: Al Pacino now acknowledges that he realized right away Cruising (1980) was exploitative. He was so upset to figure that out that he says he put the money he made into a trust and doled it out to charities. I realize a lot of gay people dig that movie today, but I don't understand the attraction. It has fantastic period footage of NYC (so I understand that part), but the movie dull, and the messaging is extremely explicitly that homosexuality is (1) contagious, and (2) synonymous with murder.

THE ATLANTIC: John Kelly, who was a Marine general and Trump's longest-serving chief of staff, has gone on the record to warn that he is a totalitarian, and not to trust what happened in Season 1 as a guide for what Season 2 would be like.
The U.S. is heading for a series-ender if we re-elect Trump, who Kelly recalls blanching at paying for a dead hero's funeral (because she was of Mexican heritage) and openly admiring Hitler.
THE ATLANTIC: For years, Trump has flirted with authoritarian speech. Seeing that his base digs it and the wider public seems blasé, he is now leading into it — and has Fox News supporting his admiration of Hitler.

Times — is declining to endorse a candidate for president, in spite of its daily assertion that the election is of utmost importance.
