Kieran Turner, director of the acclaimed Jobriath documentary Jobriath A.D., died last week. I do not know his age (he would have been in his forties) or the cause (he reportedly had battled cancer), but multiple friends of his on social media have confirmed his passing.

Jobriath A.D. was Turner's labor of love, an exhaustive look at the first-ever out queer rock star — who was basically drummed out of the business for it. You can see the film on Tubi, Peacock and elsewhere.

One of my favorite quotes in that doc was the observation that Jobriath's relationships with women could be boiled down to: reference material.

Turner also wrote and directed the 1999 feature 24 Nights, a Christmas-themed movie with Aida Turturro, and the 2013-2014 series (remember when they used to call 'em web series?!) Wallflowers, about a support group for people who couldn't get dates.

Condolences to his many friends.

Check out a long Jobriath A.D. talk-back with Kieran and Marc Almond after the jump ...
