Such a huge loss. 

Terrence McNally, the brilliant playwright and librettist behind everything from The Ritz to Master Class, Corpus Christi to The Full Monty, and — of course — Love! Valour! Compassion!, has died after battling COVID-19. He was 81.

Citing “sobering numbers” of increased coronavirus infections and “hourly” information coming in, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio has stated that the crisis could easily be “a six-month crisis.” Or could last longer.

The presser is very depressing.

The two most overall impactful political news items of the evening have to be Ralph Northam's (pictured, left) big win over Republican flunkie Ed Gillespie for the governorship of Virginia, followed by Phil Murphy creaming Chris Christie's Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno for the governorship of New Jersey.

But there is such a thing as optics — the thinking man's karma — and nobody had a better-looking win than fabulous Danica Roem.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has called the incident terrorism, which I think clarifies the confusion caused by Mayor de Blasio, who seemed to be saying there was not yet any link to international terrorism at his presser last night. Both de Blasio and the FBI have so far declined to refer to what happened as terrorism, per se. I would guess neither de Blasio nor the FBI will be re-elected.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and other NYC officials just completed a live presser regarding tonight's explosion in Chelsea.

They said the exact cause of what seems to have been an “intentional act” at 131 W. 23rd St. is not yet known, and that a second site—at 27th St.—was being investigated.

They have all but ruled out a gas explosion or construction accident. There is no indication that it was a terrorist event, at least by classical definition.

There are 29 confirmed injuries, none life-threatening, but one patient with a puncture wound was seriously injured.

Long before the presser, Donald Trump used the event to gin up supporters at a rally, stating flatly “a bomb went off in New York” before that had been confirmed.

Hillary Clinton took a more statesmanlike approach:
